Artemis

Artemis is one of the twelve Olympian Deities; She is the elder twin sister of Apollon. She is an avowed virgin, and like Her little brother an archer Who can heal or harm with Her arrows. She is the Goddess of the hunt, and protects and looks after the animals of the forest. She is energetic and athletic, and embodies the wild feminine spirit that has very little to do with the male.

All mountains are Hers; She is sometimes associated with the moon, as Her brother is associated with the Sun, but the connections aren't really as strong there as have been made out to be. Blame the Romans, who associated Her with their Diana.

She was independent and capable from birth; when She was a single day old She acted as midwife to Her brother's birth. She was accordingly invoked by women in childbirth.
