Dionysos

The Greek God of wine, Dionysos was a bit of a latecomer to Olympos and is considered the youngest of the twelve Olympian Gods. He is said to have discovered the vine and the powers of wine, and to then have taught its cultivation to humankind.

He was born to the mortal woman Semele, who died when His father Zeus appeared to her in His immortal splendor; later, when Dionysos was grown He descended to the Underworld and brought her back, and she was made immortal.

To escape from Hera's jealousy (Zeus's actual wife), Dionysos was brought up as a girl in secret; that, they say, is why He is generally depicted as pretty.

I've shown Him here as pretty, all right; behind Him are the mountains and wild forests, places His worshipers the Maenads were known to haunt. He is wreathed with ivy, a plant sacred to Him, because it is evergreen, and thus immortal.
